my tile adventure rivals Jason's Deli

On Saturday all my friends had something to do, and I had been drinking wine the night before with my friend Camile and decided maybe I didn't want to get up in 4 hours and do Long's Peak, so I decided to finish up the rest of my to do list in preparation for my upstairs bathroom remodel which will hopefully start mid-August.

My contractor Neal suggested that I look at a tile store (that I'm sure would have blown my budget) that he uses frequently. I also was supposed to pick out some baseboard at a lumber yard. The advantage to shopping where Neal suggests is that he picks the shit up so I don't have to haul it in my car.

I left for the lumber yard only to discover, after sitting for almost a half hour in traffic, that it was closed. What, no one buys lumber on Saturday??? I carried on down the same street (Santa Fe) because the tile place was only a mile from the lumber place.

I sat in traffic for about 45 minutes, barely moving. I was like what the fucking fuck is going on around here? I found out when I got to the Alameda intersection. Fucking Santa Fe was closed for construction.

On a mission, I decided to take some back roads (really having not even the faintest clue as to where I was going) and finally managed to get back on to Santa Fe. The tile store was so close I could smell the grout. And Santa Fe was CLOSED about a quarter of a mile from the tile store.

I looked around for a place to park Jake figuring I'd walk to the tile store (in 100 degree heat no less, that's how badly I wanted to get the tile picked and off my to do list). No dice. I went home, had a glass of wine, whined to my mom, looked up another tile place, and headed out again.

The place I went to is called "world of tile" although, compared to other tile places I visited during my kitchen remodel, they didn't have THAT many tiles. No one was shopping there for tiles so a dude named Michael was able to immediately assist me. I found what I wanted in 2 minutes. Shockingly, it was also $12 under budget (that NEVER happens to me). So I was like "Michael, this is all so great, but I should warn you, everything I picked out for my kitchen was out of stock or discontinued." He was like "well, at world of tile, we have EVERYTHING in stock."

A couple of clicks later on the computer and he admitted "um, we're going to have to order that."

Meh.

Supposedly it will come in today. Stay tuned for pictures. Michael was like "oh, what a beautiful room!" when I showed him the upstairs bathroom pics and I was like "um, it hasn't been redone yet." Hopefully he was kissing my ass and doesn't have super bad taste because I took his recommendation.

I miss Christine.
